Amido-amine macrocycles with naphthalimide dyes were designed to bind nucleoside monophosphates and oligonucleotides in aqueous buffered solution. The cover art illustrates the space of conformations, which adopt 2+2 and 4+4 macrocycles, depending on crystallization conditions and guest structures. The driving force for the conformational selection are π‒π interactions between aromatic rings.
